Generous donation spurs addition, planning committee members sought
After years of needing more space for its collections and events, an extremely generous donation from Butch and Colleen Pomeroy has motivated the Village of Amherst and the Lettie W. Jensen Library to form a library expansion committee. The Pomeroys are willing to match every $2 donated for the addition with a $1 donation, up to $100,000.
An initial formation meeting to establish a building expansion committee will take place at the Amherst Village Hall, 160 Mill St., Amherst, on August 14 at 6 p.m.
Items to be discussed include focus for this addition, design needs and wants, fundraising options, the hiring of an architect, possible endowment to sustain library operations, and formal makeup of the expansion committee.
All interested area community members are invited to attend. Committee members do not need to be residents of the Village of Amherst.
